THE TOURNAMENT

The day of the golf tournament had finally arrived! I had been waiting for this day since I was 8. I was now 16, the minimum age for entering the contest. I guess I had what you would call a “golf gift”. I was just good at it. I had good hand-eye coordination, aiming, balance, pretty much everything you need to be a good golf player. I was a little bit nervous though, considering there would be contestants ranging from 16 years of age to 65, and obviously there were many with more experience than me. Overall though, I wanted to make my mother proud. I knew my dad had loved golf, and that when he died my mother had put up all his golf trophies for display in the living room. I knew that my winning would mean a lot to her, and more then anything I wanted this for her. My mom drove me to the place the tournament was going to take place, and soon the contest began. We had to do many things, and it took a lot of concentration. I just kept a picture of the smile I was sure would find its way to my mothers face if I won. Towards the end, there were only 3 contestants left: me, a 53 year old man, and a man in his mid-twenties. Soon the older man got out, and it was up to me and the young guy. I beat him by very little, and I don’t remember much else besides for how my mothers face lit up as I received the 1st place trophy, and how she hugged me and told me how proud she was of me with tears in her eyes. That day meant a lot to both of us, and I’m sure that somehow, it meant something to my father too.
